Jill creates functional and decorative items for the home from fused glass.  Each item is handcrafted in her studio.  She hand cuts each piece of glass used to build each work.  Every item is fired in a kiln, usually 2 - 3 times with cold working in between to perfect the piece.

Hi there, my name is Jill Beard and I create fun and functional, fused glass art.

My artistic journey started in a very different medium than the one I currently use. I was a wedding and fine art photographer for many years before glass drew my interest. The first glass medium I was drawn to was mosaic. The intricacies of the pictures that can be created through pieces of cut glass fascinated me. A few years later, I decided to take a fused glass class at the Glass Act which is a local glass shop in Virginia Beach. Much like mosaic, we were cutting pieces of glass to form a complete picture, but these pieces presented an opportunity to make functional art.

After the first class, I was hooked and, a month later, I purchased my first kiln. My husband always likes to joke that I kicked him out of the garage and took over, which is not untrue. I studied different glass techniques and found that fused glass allowed me to express the things that had fascinated me in photography.I hope you enjoy my art as much as I did while making it. Each piece is unique and no two pieces fire exactly the same.
